Three Ways to Become More Self-Aware as a Turbo Thinker©

It’s 2022 and after living two years into a pandemic, self-awareness is key to progression.

Together with clients, we develop awareness of what is going on in their turbo thinking brains as the first step towards improvement. Without awareness of what we are currently doing, thinking and feeling, we cannot change and step into a greater version of ourselves. How can we become more self-aware as turbo thinkers?

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is paying attention to the present moment with kindness and curiosity. How can you pause and truly observe the present moment? How can you see the reality of the situation? How can you see the role you play in that reality? How do your body and your mind line up? Unless you’re a character in Back to the Future, your body is in the present moment. Is your mind in the present moment?

Mirroring

Mirroring is a form of verbal processing, in which a thinking partner (your coach) mirrors back what they hear in your story. The coach has the ability to highlight the details and summarize them for you so that you can gain clarity and awareness about yourself and your situation. With this information, you can make better decisions about how to move forward.

Movies

Making a movie in your mind in which you are the main character creates a visual narrative to develop self awareness. If you could replay a scene in your life, what actor would play you? Pretend that you are the director and tell them what to say and how to move to be you. Tell them how to feel at that very moment. Tell the other actors on the set what to do and say. By making a movie, we can slow down the action and gain insight into our role.

With acute self awareness, we can pause and redirect our thoughts and our actions to better serve us and those around us. We can also appreciate all of our accomplishments and strengths and use these to propel us forward and support our growth. Which method will you try next?
